{"id":4542,"date":"2022-02-03T21:22:06","date_gmt":"2022-02-03T21:22:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/supplyframe.com\/?p=4542"},"modified":"2022-09-26T11:52:26","modified_gmt":"2022-09-26T10:52:26","slug":"semiconductor-industry-revenue-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/intelligence.supplyframe.com\/fr\/semiconductor-industry-revenue-2021\/","title":{"rendered":"Cashing in Their Chips: Semiconductor Industry Reports Record Earnings in 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gartner.com\/en\/newsroom\/press-releases\/2022-01-19-gartner-says-worldwide-semiconductor-revenue-grew-25-point-one-percent-in-2021-exceeding-500-billion-for-the-first-time\">Gartner report, semiconductor<\/a> industry revenue set records in 2021, climbing 25.1% to $538.5 billion as the economy rebounded and <a href=\"https:\/\/supplyframe.com\/resources\/nvidia-ceo-shortages\/\">well-documented<\/a> shortages drove up prices for available chips.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs the global economy bounced back in 2021, shortages appeared throughout the semiconductor supply chain, particularly in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gartner.com\/en\/newsroom\/press-releases\/2021-12-06-gartner-predicts-chip-shortages-will-drive-fifty-percent-of-the-top-10-automotive-oems-to-design-their-own-chips-by-2025\">automotive<\/a> industry,&#8221; said Gartner Vice President of Research Andrew Norwood. \u201cThe resulting combination of strong demand as well as logistics and raw material price increases drove semiconductors\u2019 average selling price higher, contributing to overall revenue growth in 2021.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Further increasing revenue was the more than doubling of 5G cell phone production. 555 million units rolled off assembly lines this year against only 250 million in 2020.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It wouldn\u2019t be an article on the supply chain without at least <em>one<\/em> mention of the Covid-19 pandemic, and we see it when Gartner breaks down the growth of the industry across different chip types. Memory chips, like the ones in PCs and high-end mobile devices, saw the largest increase by category, with sales up $42.1 billion against 2020, accounting for a whopping 33.8% of market share. Why memory?
